Need to make a little more subject point. Was it the insect or the leaf it was sitting on. Your depth of field is not bad in that the back ground is blurred and your foreground subject is reasonably sharp. It helps if you can include your data showing lens/speed/aperture etc.

Thanks for looking, the settings were...
f-stop: f/8
Exposure 1/80 sec.
ISO 1600

Len was the kit lens that comes with the camera...I think it's called the "PENTAX-DA L 18-55mm".

Unless it was a very dull day you would not need that high an iso setting.. You should drop down to the 100-400 range. Subjects such as you've taken also benefit from using a tripod or monopod.
I have a kit lens DA 18-55 (Pentax) and they can give quite acceptable results. Handy as a 'walkaround lens' though the 55 end limits you a bit for anything too far away.

A bit too much background for that subject. I would crop the background about 1/2 way from the top to the bug, and the same on the right. It may become a bit too soft, but the composition would be nicer, I think.

I considered that same crop but felt like it makes it all about the leaf instead of the bug...here it is
