It seems a little dark, especially on the man's face which is in the shadow under his hat.

Also there is a bit too much room at the top, so I would crop off some for balance, probably to the top of the lamp post on the left - then clone out the lamp post.

It has a nice atmosphere with all the colors.

I think it is better, you should too :-) The paints are nice, bright, and natural, and the general scene is rendered better.

Like the edit more, just a shame we cannot see more of the artists face, still a lovely capture.

I find the background very cluttered and distracting, maybe a different angle might have been better.

When lightening the image, I would have considered layering off the sky first - it competes with the subject for brightness.

I wish either the painting or the artist were completely in-frame - as it is, both are cut off. Since he is essentially painting the background, I could see taking a half-step to the right, including the entire canvas and using his body to block the car mirror and green thing.

I think the crop is okay. I like the second version more than the first. Personally, I don't mind not seeing the artist's face - it just adds to the mystery. Its almost like one of those pictures from a travel guide, though those would probably use hdr-type layering so the sky would be blue.
