I thought I would check out the macro capabilities of the lens: the dandelion is at 11".

Your images are out of focus - is it an intentional attempt to evoke an impressionistic effect?

No, I am having a hard time focusing this lens. It may be the lens is 'off.' I've ordered another one from Ebay, so looking forward to trying with the new lens.

If the problem is general — not restricted to one lens — you might try adjusting the diopter. If that doesn't solve the problem, perhaps you'll find some part of this thread helpful:
