The square crop lens the image more weight and menace than the portrait crops IMHO.

@bezuidar I agree, next time I will shoot with a much smaller aperture.

@Riorico I kinda agree too, I like the square vs the portrait

What's up with the snake's one eye? Is that just a trick of the light or is one eye flatter than the other? Seems odd.

I think the slant of the head makes for more of a quizzical look, so I leveled it a bit and bumped the contrast.
I also added some fill to bring out the dark eye.

@bezuida hahaha I know right! I was really lucky cause that guy was just hanging out and wasn't even moving so I snap a couple of pic, but ohh boy I don't think I'll come neat that guy again.

I tried various crops, but I prefer the full version, straightened only with a couple of tweaks (WB, sharpen):

might look a bit weird but i would crop it this way.



i like having more negative space so that the subject don't look too "crowded".
and centered the head of the snake to make it look directly into your eyes

I like the squared version for the best fit.
