They look slightly over-cooked to me, too. My theory is that once you start to notice the effect, you've gone too far because you've taken the viewer's attention away from the subject. I agree about having the lights on, too. To me, it always makes a room feel warmer and more inviting.

I think polarising filter could be used for reducing reflections from the glass of the clock and reflections from floor.

Two things that I would do.... correct the perspective distortion and tone down the HDR, otherwise, not bad, just my take on it.
