Abandoned building (and others)
Lens: Pentax-A 50mm F2 Camera: *istDS Photo Location: Behind the local shops

I took a few pics this morning from behind the local shops.

Please feel free to critique away (note that they're straight off the camera, no editing at all)

And two with some editing:

I like the graffiti shot - almost calligraphic. And while I'm actually fond of feathered rats, I think I like the third shot best. That first is really nice, but the chain-link fence is distracting (razor wire and signs are OK - the chain link is just too "dense", IMO). Fourth is OK, but that third shot just works for me.
Thanks for sharing.

So I've discovered the building above used to be a Plaster factory, and was built in 1948 to supply the area with plaster for the post-war housing boom.

I did originally have plans of some closer more detailed pics, but seeing as how it's 1940s plaster technology, it's likely riddled with asbestos.

Nice photos.

A few minutes of asbestos exposure isn't a concern. The risk is for people who live or work with it every day. Regardless, as tempting as abandoned sites are, it's a good idea to enter with a buddy. Imagine falling over some rubble, breaking your leg *and* your cell phone, and having to crawl out.

I like them. There's a spot in the blue sky that needs to be edited out.

True, (I'd still be extremely paranoid not to disturb anything though)

Are there any general tips people can provide for composition of architectural (or building) photos in general?

I always find buildings difficult to photograph in an interesting manner, they seem to often end up a bit flat.

I didn't notice that at first, bugger!

Probably lens dust, unfortunately my 50mm doesn't have a cap to keep it clean.

It's not dust on the lens it's dust on the sensor.

I applaud photos 3, 4 and 6. The pigeon photo is pleasant. Photos 1 and 5, in my humble opinion, would be stronger if cropped from the bottom to eliminate most of the fence. (You might try making the bottom of the photo a point just above the top of the signs or, in photo 5, the fence's top bar.)
Best wishes.

Thank you all for the comments, they're all helpful.

More photos in the same vein.
