How can I improve this type of shot , it just dosn't have enough wow factor to me
Taken with just the flower head in early morning sunlight , tripod ,remote and an off camera flash at 1/64 . Edited in lightroom with the back ground exposure adjusted .

Personally, I think one reason this image lacks "Wow" is that it lacks dimensionality - it looks almost flat, no sculptural effect. You so completely overpowered the natural light that you've flattened the flower - you decision to render the background black enhances that effect. The shadows you show aren't terribly sculptural, IMO. Check out eaglem's iris. He's been posting some really awesome flowers - as have others.
Nice color, though - and sharp. Those are the usual problems, so you're ahead of the game, I think.

I quite like it.

I agree with the comment above, it does look quite flat, but I think that's why it works.
It reminds me very much of inkblot tests, or the like. It's almost an abstract way of viewing a flower, to the point where at a quick glance one might not instantly recognise it as a flower.

I would probably darken the background a little more to closer to a full black, and maybe flatten it out (at the moment the BG is a bit murky grey and has uneven tone)

That's of course if you want to keep the abstract look to it and emphasise the flatness.

I like the first photo very much. And while the second photo is pleasant, for me it has issues of focus and background.
In the background, I am distracted by the blown out areas behind the lower part of the flower and also the circular areas at upper right.
Best wishes.
