For some of us it's not common to see snow, period.

This is a strong composition, making the bug look very precariously perched up on its "hill" of ice, and helping "tell the story" of hardship (cold, wet, tough time to be a bug). Beautiful color and lighting also contribute to make this much more than an ordinary insect macro. Well done and thanks for sharing.

Whoa. Cool Curved 'horizon' of snow is better than a straight line, bug is sharp & not smack in the centre, colour is great; it looks luminous.
A neat photo. I like it!

Yes something different. I like the composition and framing and colour. The only thing that detracts is the oof antennae.

Is this "on the field" macro or you created the environment and placed the shield bug on the ice ?
Anyway I like the angle of the shot and the light. Since the bug is frozen I think a closer shot would be even more impressive

The bug was not "frozen".

It was alive, and moving, very slowly.

The environment is perfectly natural 2 000 m high in Switzerland, I saw the bug by chance on the snow...

Wow I thought that this kind of shield bugs are "summer bugs", at least I can't remember to see any of them on winter here (usually much warmer than 2000m high summer). Nice work you probably could feel the cold!!!
Forget to mention that colors look great. What about light setup?

Good Shot, well spotted. Could the bug have been caught in a updraft to land up at 2000mtrs?

Love the shot.

I'm undecided if I like where the focal plane is in this shot. I like all the details on the back of the bug, but I also feel that the face of the insect would be more appropriately in focus in this shot. Unfortunately, probably not much DOF you can play with at this magnification. With a moving subject this also complicates the matter so I wouldn't be too upset with this result especially with all those nifty details on the back of the bug to stare at.

Best,

-Q

Thanks to all of you !

@ tsakatsaka : no specific light setup, just natural light on a very foggy cold day...

@ gmans : yeah, the bug was probably caught in something to land up there...

Love it! Nice composition and great color. Are those baby bugs on his/her back?

Regards!
