Streets Color vs B/W

I was wondering which one you guys preferred?

The photo is meant to show "line" and I think the B/W does a better job at emphasizing it.

And in your opinion, anything strikingly bad about the photo? I know it was a quick snap with the point and shoot, but I can always go back and re-shoot with my dslr.

The color one is alive. The B&W one is lifeless.
Or, that's my take, others' opinions will no doubt vary.

I'm not sure which is the "better" version but I think the "line" is more evident in the B&W - no distraction by color. I would boost the contrast a bit.

I agree - and if your object is to show lines, I think the BW works really well!

I agree that the b/w version conveys "line" better.
I'm more interested in the fence's texture and the protrusion of some of the boards than in the sidewalk and other aspects of the photo. Perhaps you would enjoy photographing the fence at varying times of day, with differing light and from various angles — including shooting up from a very low position.
Photographing the fence in various seasons might also be worthwhile.
