Marmaris Bay
Lens: smc PENTAX-DA L 50-200mm F4-5.6 ED Camera: Pentax K-r Photo Location: Marmaris, Turkey ISO: 200 Shutter Speed: 1/1500s Aperture: F8

Your critique of this landscape taken during my recent holiday to Turkey would be appreciated. It's funny how I've chosen another landscape for critique as my favourite type of photography is still life.

Anyway, I'm not sure if this had the polarising filter on or not, it's certainly blue enough to make me think it did. The shutter speed is very fast and I think this was due to me taking shots of jetskis before this shot, and not changing the settings. I have removed 8 small boats/ jet skis from the horizon and along the coastline to tidy the shot up and to give it a calmer feel. I did leave one near the horizon as I feel 3 looks better than 2. As always your thoughts and suggestions are appreciated.

Agree re: more (or none) of the boat.

Also, the horizon appears tilted down and to the right.

Did you consider adding more midtone contrast in post, to really draw the shapes of the mountains out in the background? I think more can be done with this, in spite of the ship entering the frame from the left.

Thanks for your comments all. Looks like I uploaded the wrong, unstraightened, version, doh.

It's interesting that 2 of you would have liked to see more of the foreground boat. I could have got a little more of it, but not much. Is the problem that there is not enough boat or is it more a rule of thirds problem where the boat doesn't fill enough of the picture?

Mike, thanks for the midtone contrast tip. I have given it a try but it's not producing a result that I like. Thanks anyway, it'll come in handy in future.

Both versions are quite good. I slightly prefer the cropped version.
Also, I'd welcome a version in which no person is visible.
