First attempt at Star Trails
Lens: 21mm Camera: K5 Photo Location: West Texas ISO: 800 Shutter Speed: Above 6s Aperture: F3.2

First attempt ever. Read a ton from the experts here at the forum. I have obviously lots to learn still but I think this one came out not too bad for a first timer.

Please feel free to give feedback and guidance.

I'll start......choose a more interesting foreground.

A good first attempt. Yeah sometimes we aren't trying to have a great shot just practicing and the back yard is the first place we start. I found a spot with a great elevated position looking south, Southern Hemisphere, fairly dark but with a small town in the distance. Gives a good effect. What you need to do is start scouting during daylight as when its dark you might step in something or have an angry farmer challenge you. We have, even in Oz they have guns. Planes do become a problem. I use an App called Flight Tracker, outside the US it is live, US it is 5 minutes delayed. Gives most aircrafts location and tracks.

Excellent advice Aussie. I was scouting today as I went about my typical business. My gf's house is a outside the city limits so that I can shoot the northern stars while facing away from the city. Alas, I'm right smack in the middle so that my few snapshots an hour or two ago proved useless.

I'll have to keep looking.
