Salticus scenicus on leaf
Lens: Pentax FA 50mm f/2.8 Macro & Pentax 2x teleconverter Camera: Pentax k-r Photo Location: Mission, B.C. Aperture: F16

ISO 250, Shutter Speed 1/160, f/16

Overhead flash with home made diffuser. Image rotated and cropped.

I've recently become serious about improving my macro photography, and trying to capture the personality of my subjects, so I've decided to venture into the critique forum for some (hopefully constructive) criticism

I've loved spiders since I was a kid, and since I've had my camera (and a working macro setup) I've taken literally hundreds of pictures of various arachnids. I was out taking my camera for a walk (and my dog) and I spotted this little (about 4mm) guy hanging out on a concrete wall. I relocated him to a more aesthetically pleasing locale (a nearby bush) and snapped a few pictures.

Some jumping spiders are very cooperative, inquisitive, and friendly. I've seen one that kept trying to interact with his reflection in the lens, waving his arms around and standing on his hind legs. This guy though, probably due to his diminutive stature, was rather shy, and I think this photo conveys it. (His downcast eyes, and the way he's half hiding in the shadow of the leaf)

Looking at it on a larger monitor, I've noticed a couple dust spots I'll have to clean my sensor, again.

Yep, they have eight eyes arranged to provide a near 360 degree field of view. I guess you'd call it octocular vision
