First image ... is just a candid picture of a tree. Seems a little bit blurry and a little bit underexposed.
Either get a wider shot and frame it so you can show the landscape where this tree is sitting in; OR get closer and show the texture of it more.

Second image could of had a lot of potential ... if it would of been cleaner/clearer/sharper.
A tripod and a steady hand in these cases works wonders!

I like both images, and I might like the first image even more if cropped from the bottom to include only the tree.

The second image would be stronger if sharper or perhaps almost totally out of focus for an obvious artistic look.You might consider capturing several images, moving the camera up or down with settings at various shutter speeds to achieve that.
