Candid portrait of my girl
Lens: F50mm f/1.7 Camera: Pentax K-30 Photo Location: Pittsboro, NC ISO: 1000 Shutter Speed: 1/90s Aperture: F1.7

ISO 1250, 1/80s, f1.7

Candid, hand-held shot. I don't think it's anything special, but figured I'd post and ask what you all thought, and what I could do better next time.

Charles.

Nice subject. I would probably have cropped out the blue bottle on the right even if it violated some rules.

Keep shooting.

Good capture. I can picture her stabbing you in the neck with that pen however...You did get her approval for posting this(messy hair and such)

Cheers.

It's cute. I too would get rid of the bottle -- it's a pretty colour & thus distracting -- and try for a less busy background (people back there, post behind her head...).

Pretty difficult to recompose a candid shot, but you can always crop. I would remove the right side until you get rid of the wood with the prominent (and mostly in focus) grain. That way, everything around your primary subject is out of focus with a pleasant blur. It's a good candid shot, that she will probably look for things to not like, but everyone else will complement her (and you) on it, because it looks natural and high quality at the same time.
