The Bishop
Lens: Kit 18-55mm Camera: K50 Photo Location: Living room ISO: 100 Shutter Speed: 1/2s Aperture: F4.5 

I played around with the DOF on my chess board - got a few nice ones... I think! Let me know what you think.

This is a very interesting image. I like how you have only one chess piece completely in focus.

Yes, I took a few shots, this is the only one that isolated just one piece - that is why I thought there is something interesting about it. It gives a cosy feel too. I feel there is something wrong with the cropping, but can't place my finger on it.

Cropping the Bishop

Thanks, I think that is an improvement - I will also play around, maybe crop the knight out as well... turn the photo into a portrait configuration.... think the bishop will "pop" more this way.

I don't know. I didn't really see anything wrong with the first image. That's just my opinion.

Yes, I tried other crops - did not work as well as I thought they would. The suggestion by Cedric makes the Bishop pop out better, but the image loses a bit of "depth" and "warmth" I guess it will depend how one would like to use the picture...

To me, the frame is just filled better in the first image. You are right about it depending on how someone would like to use the image.
