Can't find anything wrong (1st picture) - think it is perfect from a beauty perspective! Seems a bit over processed, but that does not matter - still is gorgeous!!!

Love the first one, I feel like I'm getting sucked down a vortex, if that makes any sense

2 really cool shots. I definitely prefer the first. I like the inclusion of the life preserver, and I prefer the sky in that one as well.

I like the first one best also. More dramatic with the processing used and it shows the frost better. The lower angle gives a bit different viewpoint and the life preserver adds some weight and interest. It looks like you have a lot of interesting sites to photograph near you looking at your flickr gallery.
Regards
Greg

I'm going to be off side - I prefer the second one - but both are very nice. They are just different. For me the second one has much better sky at the end of the pier and places the shot better with the left side of the harbour showing more.

Like both, but for some reason prefer the 2nd.
Looks more "natural" but not sure why.Maybe just the lighting

They're both good shots, but I prefer the first one. As someone mentioned, it seems a tad over-processed, but that's adjustable (as well as a matter of taste). Other than the extremely strong lines of the dock, what I like about it is the horizon placement. It's given you a couple of small "pictures within a picture" framed by the railing. On the left, there's the other pier and lighthouse (if that's what that is)...and on the right there's the string of city lights. Also, I think the dark clouds at the top of the frame forces the viewer's eye down from the sky and onto the dock. The front to back sharpness seems better, too.

I much prefer the first. I think the lighthouse works much better in the scene,. In the second the lighthouse seems to compete for a second focal point. I like the lifebelt too, really adds something.

I love the first one. I think the processing makes it look almost otherworldly, and the tension of the sun almost peeking over the horizon is palpable. In this light (no pun intended), the second shot almost seems like it was caught too late, but I'm hung up on the "pre-sunrise" thing - my problem, not yours
