Blue Red Black
Lens: Sigma 35 & 70Ltd Camera: K5 IIs

Good evening!

Played with colors and composition this Sunday a little! It was as quite fun, just a little cold

As always, honest opinions and constructive critique are more than welcome!

Thanks!
Rokas.

Very nice. My favorite is the third shot, with the second a close second. The third, because I love the way the scarf follows her contours, and the second for the mysterious atmosphere. The others are good, but I rather like the blue color better than the red or black lace.
Thanks for sharing.

For the first two - Sigma 35mm. The 3rd one - 70Ltd.

Wow, great photo's. My only criticism is that these are not in some high end fashion magazine (because they should be) . Well done!

The first two do not work for me.
First one looks like she has no left arm at first glance. with the second one it looks like she has extremely big hips.
3: is nice, but I think red would have gone better than blue.
4: I think is really lovely
5: I do not like the pose
6: see 4 (though I like nr 4 more)
7: don't like her expression in this one
8: not really fond of this one, it is missing somethinfg for me
9 through 11: all just very good, really good

very nice model btw,

I'm curious what PP you do to your photos. I'm learning portrait photography and this is the exact type of look I'm going for.
Do you use Photoshop? Lightroom? or something else? How much PP do you do?

Thanks, Macario,
Critique like this really helps me to see my mistakes and produce a better result in the future!
I am looking through these photos now and I have to admit that you spotted a few mistakes I did that I failed to see.

Thank you!

I use lightroom only.
Hard to define what is a lot or a little PP. I look at PP as a way to enhance the photo not to alter reality. So, for me, if it looks unnatural, it is too much
When I export photos to Lightroom, the first thing I do is to create a filter (like a chemist creates a mixture of some sort). That consists of some color adjustments (I like a slight film look) and basic stuff like highlights, shadows, etc. Then I apply this filter to all the photos and do some necessary, usually minimal final adjustments.

When you talk about color adjustments, are you using any split toning?
Or are you just using the sliders in Lightroom to adjust HSL of individual colors?

I don't do split toning.

Tone curve + adjustments of individual colors.

Have in mind, that the lens is extremely important here.
For example, the 70Ltd has absolute wonderful rendering, Sigma 35Art is really good also. It really doesn't require that much tweaking, when you get such a beautiful rendering in the first place!

Okay, I think I will get rid of shots 1,2,5, 7 and maybe 8.

What do you think about putting these in their place?

Shots 8 & 12 are the best of these. The others are a little too contrived. 8 is contrived but works. Many of the others really don't flatter your model - especially shot 2.
A good series though. You have to be brutal with your culling. One excellent shot is far better than 8 pretty decent images.

I can't agree more!

Now when you said, I remember a quote from Zack Arias "a bad photo makes the good one look bad, but never otherwise"

Thanks, for advice
