Hi everybody,

I took this shot a few months ago and I would like your opinion on it. The thing that I like the most is the structure on the clouds. What do you think?

cheers...

The clouds and the framing are what makes the picture. I think you have way too much black to the right and too much sky to the left! You could try experimenting with diffrent crops.

Are the spots dust on the sensor?

I think Ole has the shot nailed. Particularly the black section. Just too much negative space. Adjust the crop if you can.

Your sensor needs a big cleaning and you'll have to clone out those spots.

Thanks guys,

Had you not mentioned the spots I wouldn't had notice them. One more thing I have to keep an eye on. I'm trying to come up with a viable crop as I type... It seems that most "standard" crops keep a fair amount of black to the right. Maybe a non standard aspect ratio works best. I like a little of sky to the left because it makes it shows that silhoutte is due to a tree. Here is my attempt to fix it. At least the dust spots are gone...

I think this crop does put more emphasis on the clouds and sunset

Hi there, I would try a more brutal crop:
On the vertical take out half the tree trunk on either side so that each side will have an even amount of black.
Then on the horizontal crop out some of the foliage from the top to form a square picture.
I think that gives the illusion of looking through a window at the trees framing the sunset which gives the shot extra dimension (especially if you put a frame on the pic). Regards, Gary

well, the second crop works better but I like the idea above...
