Ephemeroptera
Lens: Pentax-A 50mm f/1.7 Camera: Pentax K-7 Aperture: F3.2

A mayfly diving down in the air.

I'd love any comments and ideas on how to take better images of flying bugs.

The subject appears maybe too small in the above picture, so I tried this cropped version.

The image had some noise which is bit distracting when cropped. I couldn't remove the noise without destroying details, so I thought I'd make it BW.

EDIT: I also included two more shots. The mayfly is dropping freely in the first two ones and flying straight up in the last one.

Not sure if the mayfly is in shadow?
The sun seems to be behind it, so the side I see seems dark?
Also, as you say, it is small in the picture. Getting closer would be better.
Shots of it landed let you get closer, obviously.
Hard to shoot while flying.

The sun is behind me, but yes its pretty dark. I think I'll try using a flash next time to stop the motion.
