Love the simplicity of this one, I know there was a lot of thought and effort behind it but the photo is clean and looks like a painter's flora study.
Clean was one of the goals. I'm glad you enjoyed it and thanks for commenting!

Perfect exposure, nice shot, though cropping the right side would not hurt and give greater focus to the main subject (milkweed silk).

I'm always afraid it's just a lack of imagination cop-out to toss an object on a simplistic background and I do it pretty often so I'm looking for any general feedback here. Is it an interesting enough object to stand out of context from nature? Does it give a sense of exploding? Does the tone of the backdrop compliment the pod well? Does the floating nature feel just strange?

Thanks for any input.

It's from common milkweed, Asclepias syriaca, a host plant for Monarch butterflies when they're larva (and a few other things).

Great shot. BTW I looked at a few images on your Flicker albums and they look awesome!

The colors of the subject and to background work well together. The method of presentation effectively dramatizes an otherwise common subject. Well done.

This shot instantly reminded me of growing up in southern Ohio. I was told as a kid that the 'milk' from this plant is poisonous. I love this composition.

The floating effect is perfect for it, though, as the purpose of those seeds is to spread floating through the breeze.

Agree.

Artistically, this is such an engrossingly moody subject especially with its sepia coloring! It looks like it has a deep story to tell. Technically, maybe it could be cropped width-wise, or shot vertically; maybe not. I hope you're not upset that I didn't think that the sharpness was the most outstanding feature of your photo, after your introduction.

To me, this is perfect. Good DOF, nice color of the background and yes you get the sense it's exploding and yes it is definetely interesting as an image

Nice picture. I think it the seed pod really stands out. Lots of geometric shapes and patterns to see. I think it is more interesting this way than on the plant, because it is an unusual image.
