Not Quite Starry Night
Lens: DAL 18-55 Camera: KS-1 Photo Location: Concord, CA

On a hike yesterday I came across an oil sheen on a creek. It originated from the bank and proceeded under some shadows from overhead trees. My goal was to capture the trees and sheen in sharp detail and then have the trees be basicalyl silhouettes and the sheen be the majority of the images color. Though and oil sheen is never a pretty thing, I wanted to try and make it as close to pretty as I could.

C+C welcome on all subjects, especially whether or not this achieved my vision for it.

Very well done capture, id remove the yellow leaf on the lower left if possible, but other than that this is really nice!

Good catch. I can take that out for the final version, no problem. Thank you!

Sweet xD
If the eyes could keep focused on only the oil swirl and the shadowy branches itd be perfect.
You have a good eye for a good photo thats for sure.

Nice work. Meanwhile, where's the oil coming from; can't be good for the stream.

Good question, Jac. I'll go back there this week on my next day off and if it's still there report it to the fire department. I hope it's just runoff since this was following our first rain of any significance in more than a year.

Oh, I looked at the photo for a bit, but the description helped explain it. Its a very cool effect, but I would like some object or something for a little.. orientation. Then again, I guess it was supposed to be a bit abstract, confusing, so well done. The oil on water and the silhouettes look great
