Peter Iredale wreckage
Lens: Pentax HD Ltd. 20-40 f/2.8-4 Camera: Pentax K5IIs Photo Location: Fort Stevens, Oregon ISO: 100 Shutter Speed: Above 6s Aperture: F8

Two captures of the wreckage of Peter Iredale on the coast of Oregon. I've used ND filter to get long exposures in order to "erase" all the people running around the wreck, few more static figures remained as ghosts which I think fits quite nicely with the overall feel. Let me know what you think.

When I was a kid in the late 60's there was so much more. I can see that it my be completely gone in another 30-50 years. i like the idea of using a ND filter to remove people. The idea of ghosts intrigues me as well, especially if staged. Better yet, have the actors in period clothing.

What strength of ND filter did you use?

It was a 9-stop (or NDx400) ND filter and I was lucky enough that it was a perfect match for the conditions it allowed me to get 30s exposures at the best f-stop and ISO100. I like the idea of staged actors but for an amateur it's well beyond my capabilities to organize

On second one i cant regonize it is ship wreck and i dont like those "multi pose" peoples. Like first one exposure and light are amazing.

Thank you very much @Nicolas514 @LeGuillotine
Yes I can see how the second one could be confusing composition if it was a separate picture.

Like it very much ! the colours are very good and I like the subject itself and the composition. The position of the shipwreck is perfect.

Btw. I have one more picture from the same trip, after the sun was too low and the light on the ship was lost I tried to capture the sunset with some long exposure shots and this is my favorite result:

Again, I don't know why, but I really like the colors of your photos ! The blur of the water in your second picture looks really great too The only thing that could be better (but im no proffessional) is that there could be an object somewhere... Maybe you could have dragged the wreck to the position here

Haha I wish, unfortunately there were way too many people around the wreck at that point taking pictures of the sunset through the holes in the wreck so it would loose it's "magic". I think I might need to wait for a really cold winter up here and go there in the middle of the week to be able to shoot some more pictures without "human obstacles"

And I do love how the K5IIs and the Ltd. 20-40 captures colors, it's a great setup.

Oh I know those situations when you see something so beautiful. You see the perfect picture in front of you, but there are just too many people around to photograph it. I wish you good luck on that !! Maybe you need some of those
