Sandy River
Lens: Pentax HD Ltd. 20-40 f/2.8-4 Camera: Pentax K5IIs Photo Location: Rhododendron, OR ISO: 400 Shutter Speed: 5s Aperture: F8

Capture from friends backyard (literally - his house is directly on the river bank), I didn't do much photography this weekend so decided to try capturing the Sandy River the morning after party at his house.

I really love it! The muted colors, and the smoothness of the water against the boulders is beautiful.

@csa thank you, I love how the scenery looks through the Ltd 20-40 lens and I'm trying to get that balance between texture and smoothness of the water - I think I would like to get the time closer to 2s next time but I didn't want to boost the ISO too much here - I need to get a lower index ND filter.

Nice textures on the rocks. Complements the smoothness of the flowing water nicely. Wrt. the capture time, I think that you could try either shorter or an even longer capture (longer capture for even more glass-like water).

The only thing really 'missing' from this shot is some epic light (it is a bit too flat for my taste), but that is usually not up to the photographer to decide when outdoors .

Grats on the nice capture!

Thanks @fromunderthebridge - I used to go for long times when capturing rivers (20+ seconds) now I switched to 1-2s to get that motion effect, here I needed a lighter ND filter which I didn't have on me and I didn't want to boost ISO too high - so I ended up with the 5s, but next time I'll try to stick to the 2s rule
