Lens: tamron 10-24 Camera: k-50 Photo Location: mississippi river

I picked up a K-50 a few months ago and finally got some time to use it. I am new to slrs of any type and would like some tips or critiques on these images. They are all jpeg from the camera no processing. Thanks in advance for just looking. Sorry i guess i edited the last one.

Hi and Welcome

I will give my opinions on these images but I stress they are only my opinions.

I. Not too bad but could be better.
Composition is slightly off. Curved path is nice and a strong element. Sky is also a strong element. A lot of empty space to the left. Sticks on right hand side are a distraction. Image looks slight tilted but it is difficult to be sure because of the lay of the land but this is something to watch in landscapes. Background trees seem out of focus

Suggestions:
Set aperture at f8 to f16 to increase depth of field. With landscapes generally everything should be in sharp focus. There are a number of good youtube tutorial on the subject.
Crop off some of the left and bottoms sides.
Adjust lighting and contrast assuming you have editing software
Clone out sticks on right.

2 Much the same as 1 except there is no real point of interest. That fence on the left is blurred beyond holding any interest

3. I like it

Composition is good with strong elements
B/W conversion suits
Depth of field better at f9

Suggestions
Darken the sky a touch
Increase contrast slightly.

Welcome again and beware once you start with editing photos there is no known cure.

I have taken the liberty to perform a quick edit on #1 to demonstrate what I mean. Using Photoshop elements.

Crop and straighten. Horizon line now at 1/3 way up frame. Dead trees on right and left appear more prominent. I prefer the panorama look for this sort of image.

Spot healing brush Sticks on right removed.

Adjust light levels levels and contrast. Picture appears brighter

Sharpen. Details are more crisp

All these edits took less than 5 minutes, working with the original files would produce even better results. A little editing is time well spent. Serious lanscape photographers can spend hours on a single image. Some of this can be done in camera from RAW files but dedicated software often produces superior results.
