Two lightbox/product style shots. Shot RAW, converted in Lightroom and processed in Paint.NET. I know they are definitely not the cleanest nor the most attractive subjects, but apart from that, let me know what you guys think.

the 1st seems better exposed, but other than that, it seems very much like a product catalog picture...

lightbox shouldn't give u that sharp shadow... no?

You're right. The lighting was the onboard flash, and then I did a bit of post processing in Paint.NET to selectively brighten the background whilst leaving the subject relatively untouched

Yeah, I know, but with assignments to do and exams looming, I just needed an excuse to prepare for neither!

I like the second shot better. Don't know why, but the lighting in the first one almost seems.. fake.

I have taken some static type shots similar to this without a lightbox. I used my 500ftz bounced off of a 4ft circular diffuser about 3 ft above the subject. You can play with the angle of the flash and diffuser to get the light just right. It does a pretty good job of softening the light on the subject.
