Please critique
Camera: Pentax K-r 

Hi..looking on ways to improve macro photography. Observations and comments welcome..

Your lighting is good but I personally think you should stop down more to increase your DOF.

I also know that you can't really pose bugs but the leading edge, or the most prominent feature to your composure is blurred out. That part for me isn't really working...

Overall I give you an 8 out of 10 for effort because you most definitely have the right idea on lighting and such which is a really big deal in macro. Just stop down more and work on composition and I think you will be right there

EDIT: Also with bugs and macro... you have to pay close attention to the angle that you take the photo from. My personal way is to try and be as flat as possible to the bug in question. (Flat=parallel) The extremely shallow DOF can mess up otherwise great shots if you are not careful.

Thanks alamo5000..the spider was on hanging on a very low branch on the beach...was kinda tricky to get the best perspective. Will keep the pointers in mind..

I think you need to find a more interesting angle and increase DoF by stopping down the lens or using focus stacking. The lighting is good as others said!

I think it's good and interesting. A living being you haven't seen before.This is the essence of the macro.
