I like it like it is....good light but not too bright to hide the background. Anyhow, I'm not a very good critic, but it got the Otis Seal of Approval. You can't do much better than that unless you can post some naked girls! If you should, the light is just right for most any naked girls...so Otis says.

Regards!

You nailed it luftfluss. My intent is to show "the interplay of the thin, string-like shapes of the reeds with the amorphous background." The lighter renditions of this scene showed more texture in the reeds' heads and that did not work. I wanted to show the repeating patterns of the reed's seeds, in addition to the contrast between the well-defined and darkened outlines of the reeds and the bright amorphous background with globs of yellow. I felt increasing the exposure would hinder rather than help me accomplish my goals.
And you are the only arbiter you need to please. As you and others have said, you have a successful photo the way it is because it portrays the original intent. If you had used another version to please others it would no longer be your art even if a client or an admirer wanted to buy it. So again, record an image for pay or make art. Some very talented people get to have it both ways but I bet that is rarer than many think.

Hi Rupert,

This is one of the best things that I have gotten out of this forum: The Otis Seal of Approval. I heard that isn't given so often.

Cheers!

I appreciate your advice. Fortunately, am a hobbyist and so I have no one to please except myself. What am finding though is that it is quite a challenge to find come up with an image with a near universal appeal. Who says real photography is easy?
