Maybe like this. Opened in Adobe Camera, played with split toning, luminance, highlights and shadows, the shadow adj in CC. The dynamic range in this is difficult regardless of lens or camera. My goal is always what I saw in my imagination, that image. .

Thanks Aaron and Brooke, the second picture is too red overall, and the sun is blotchy, but thanks for trying. I think the answer would have been to spot meter the sun as Aaron suggested, then blend it in. I did try but at -3 exposure comp, it was still burnt out.

I wouldn't even try a spot meter on the sun. Quit using camera meters about 2009, use Sunny 16 as an anchor, swag and adjust with histogram aka "the modern Polaroid test exposure". Started it because meters are useless in theaters for dance, got used it making pretty accurate swags. I do use a handheld incident meter but less and less.

Don't know if your calibrate your monitor, if not its likely way brighter than mine. And of course, a RAW image would help. Here are some examples that don't lend themselves to metering. The last one was six seconds and timing was everything

I have by accident that's why I mentioned it because of the effect it had........if I had any skills editing I would also try blending them but knowledge I have is very limited and in comparison maybe an embryo at this point......................thanks to the forum for a great learning and sharing platform!
