Transit Tunnel Clock
Lens: FA 35/2 Camera: K5ii Photo Location: Seattle, WA ISO: 2200 Shutter Speed: 1/45s Aperture: F8

I would love critical expert and armchair analysis, opinions and critique of this photo. I took it today in Seattle's Transit Tunnel, I loved the lighting, shadows and geometry and I waited it out until no one would be in the shot. I did do a fair bit of post processing, though I didn't add or removing anything, just contrast and color cast, mostly.

I also took it on film today, but I won't see that one for a while. No tripod and 100 speed film, so the depth of field is going to be really thin on that one. My assumption is that this will be the better shot, but we'll see.

I really would appreciate any and all feedback on it. This is a type of photo that I really enjoy taking and want to learn and improve.

Very nice pic! I wished my K-7 had so little noise at such a high ISO! the only thing i think might improve it, is having the clock hands visible, lets say 11:05 ... but maybe that's not so easy...

Actually, that would be completely easy I know exactly what time that's going to happen every day! I find myself wishing that the center of the hands...that axel or whatever you call it on a clock.. were in line with the rail, but I also wanted the camera to be at the railing level, so I can't have it both ways.

Thanks for your words.

Very cool--I especially like the processing of the lights and ceiling at the top of the frame. To be honest, though, I think I'd encourage you to leave the people "in"--however blurry they may appear, depending on the exposure. Think about taking your tripod next time and see if there are any interesting juxtapositions to be had.

It would be a good place to photograph with my tripod, which would also make the film option better. I was actually coming back from the baseball game and didn't plan this shot.

If I were taking a series in this tunnel station, I like your idea of including people in the shot, maybe we some long exposures.

Sounds like a project!

Is that in the Westlake Station? Each of the stations has a distinctive clock in it, I especially like the Pioneer Sq station, with all the old tools in it.

I think you can get the center of the clock aligned with the railing if you move a bit closer, maybe look down on the rail just a bit, and you can keep the alignment
I agree about getting the hands above the rail
The mix of color in the lights is a bit off to me, I'd try to cool it a bit, try adding some magenta, not too much though.
Nicely seen, could keep playing with this idea for a while.

Yes it is Westlake Station. I feel a project coming on, maybe I'll do all of them.

I had some fun with these colors with a copy of this, but these are the actual colors of the station or at least they were at that time on that day.

I'm loosing planning a trip with tripod around 9am get it set up and dialed in and take a few short exposures, then try some long exposures with people walking through them.

I haven't been in the Pioneer Square Station in a while, I'll revisit it. I'm in the Chinatown Station quite often, but it's not as spacious. Westlake is fairly expansive, which is one of the reasons I love it.

Thanks everyone for their comments, keep them coming. I'm pretty happy with this photo, but I'm going to again and see how far I can take it.
