Run, Molly, Run!
Camera: Pentax K-3 Photo Location: Bygdøy, Oslo

Did a bit of a photo shoot with my ultrarunner-sister a few weeks ago. Never really shot sports, let alone modelled sports before, but we had a great time, and i'm pretty happy with the results, although I'd love to get some feedback. Here are a few of my faves:

Quite the like the last one, you're definitely on to something there (better than I for sure). Also liking the low dof in the second one, too. A touch higher shutter speed wouldn't hurt to get rid of the blur in Molly's legs. Probably easier said then done though eh haha

Nice shots of what must have been quite a demanding shoot for both of you.
Since you asked for feedback, I'll offer some. Please note that I don't do much sport photography if any, and the only time I work with mode are when I do weeding and engadgement shots, and frankly, I don't like the interaction that much :P .

Anyway, a general comment first : for those type of shots (running, into the wild), I think I would have tried to get a more serious, concentrated look, maybe even dramatic of some sort (fear, anger, pain, intensity - all in a very very subtle way) on her face. I think it would have made the pictures more provocative and more appealing, to me at least.
In the third picture, I would crop the people on the far right. I like to think that it is a deep forest and that she is alone, now, those people make it hard for me to think that.
Also, on the third shot, panning would have possibly added a very dynamic and interesting effect.

My two cents.

It's always good to get out of your comfort zone to learn something new. I like #3.

Very cool--#2 is my favorite...the trees give a bit of dimensionality to the frame, emphasizing the "obstacle course" setting. Next time you're out, though, I'd try it with a longer focal length and opened up a bit in hopes the shallower DOF would help with subject isolation. Of course, if you wait till April, a K1 wouldn't hurt a bit, either...

Thanks! I think the low shutter speed is due in part just to my major area of work being concert photography, so it tends not to occur to me that when there's actually light, you don't only have to focus on dropping ISO

Haha, I don't think I'll be getting a K-1 any time soon, unless i win the lottery, an unknown and wealthy relative dies and leaves all of their capital to me, or maybe if someone wants to buy a kidney?

Thanks for the feedback! I had honestly not even noticed the people in the corner of the third shot. As for the facial expressions, we decided to go for more of an 'enjoying a sunny afternoon run' thing' than an 'intense, pushing through the wall' thing. But i get what you mean

Thanks! Shooting in actual sunlight was kind of novel

In the first one, I like the way that both of her feet seem to be off the ground - made me pause to look again (and again lol)
