Mesquite Flats Sand Dunes
Lens: 18-135 Camera: K3 Photo Location: Death Valley ISO: 400 Shutter Speed: 1/125s Aperture: F13.5

X-Posted in the Weekly Challenge thread but I wanted to make a dedicated post to this photo because I really do love how it turned out. In PP I darkened the shadows a little and increased the vibrance, so the sand reflects the color of the sunset. Any critiques?

VERY nice. TY for posting.

I've been there once--NOT in the summer--and got some good pics on those same dunes.

Nice. I've also visited mesquite flats once and in a way it was surprisingly difficult to photograph satisfactorily. I would perhaps crop a bit off the to emphasize the line in the middle (i.e. crop the topmost small cloud out).

i've shot that place before, the purple in the mountains is amazing, you captured it well.

the sky in that shot doesn't add anything to the composition, you'd have to be up high shooting down to eliminate it, but then you'd be hard-pressed to find a dune peak that had the light on it, like this shot does.

B&W does work nicely. Here is a similar shot by Ansel Adams, Edward Weston also did something like it! Both B&W and Color have their likable aspects!

I'll go back in the winter when it's a bit cooler, then I'll take better photos of the dunes
