Horses by Barn
Lens: F28 -200mm F4.7 - 5.6 Camera: istDS2 Photo Location: Caledon ISO: 200 Shutter Speed: 1/250s Aperture: F5.6

Looking to get your C&C. The original RAW imaged greatly lacked contract and was not very sharp. I reckon it was the lens but would welcome all your thoughts and advise!

You have a very good sense placing the subjects in space - I could do no better if as well.
If it was my pic I would clone out some of the jarring irrelevant stuff that is distracting to that sense of space like that red stuff from the tractor etc.
Beautiful creatures by the way.

this is a great shot! the only thing I would change (if it was possible) would t have waited until the white horse showed it's face. but that is being really critical and could just be an isolated option

To me, the horses appear too centered in the frame. Adopting a 4/3 ratio and slightly cropping from the top left corner would address this issue of an otherwise very pleasing image. It would also reduced the space above the horses to less than 1/2 of the image height, making them more salient.

It's great picture!
I probably would make shadows slightly lighter on the left half of the picture.

Adsouza, Very nice picture. I actually like the red tractor. It is a part of what held interest. The blue barrel and the crumpled box by the barn could use either a be cut out or muted in some way. I like the softness of the background. If the leaves were any sharper the horses would not stand out as they do. It seems to balance with the red fence on the right.

Many of the points have been suggested by other posters. If there is anything to take away, I would suggest changing the perspective a little so you can see a better part of the horse profile (a bit too direct in front for my taste, just IMHO). Also, the chute coming from the barn window in the background seems a little distracting, however, I am not sure if you can avoid it though. Overall, I think you did good on this one and good use of your old equipment.
