Experimental Photograph.
Lens: Pentax-DA 55~300mm ED. Lens. Camera: Pentax k-50 Photo Location: Front Yard ISO: 100 Shutter Speed: 1/160s Aperture: F5.8

When I first noticed these guys, I thought of two reasons for taking the photo. The first was to use my newly acquired Pentax 55~300mm ED Lens, and to educate myself on PPE Software. Please feel free to offer any suggestions.

Focal Length 300mm, Manual Exposure Mode, no flash and used CWA Metering.

Thanks for viewing.

A faster shutter speed and or a more stable tripod for a lens of this size would certainly help with the image sharpness, as this one looks to be a bit on the soft side.

Tonytee;

I am a newbie to this forum but I have seen your other photos and this one is "not like you".

What is your experiment; soft photos ?

I understand what you are saying, K.D., and I will keep it in mind.

Thank you for your input.

You are correct on all points. I wanted to see how my newly acquired Pentax telephoto would handle this type of scene and also to fudge around with Post Photo Editor Software to become familiar with as many features as possible. I am finding myself more in favor of softer photos. After viewing so many ultra-sharp images, they begin to come across as dried out and unappealing. That is one of the many benefits of photography, in that we can all continue to work on what makes us individuals with our own likes and dislikes. A never ending quest. Thanks for your input.

.. and you surely are learning!
How did you manage to get the black background? Naturally or PP?

I did not use a speedlight for this shot, however I do have flood lights on the front of the house, above the gutters. At the time this was taken I was also studying portrait photography, so I was eager to learn as much as possible about natural and artificial light. That alone is an arduous journey, but it can also become very rewarding.

Thanks for the question.
