Originally posted by Lord Lucan It is good, and I'm glad that you kept the foreground foliage in focus. Some people might ask for shadow detail, but I think that would have distracted from the main subject, the sun and water. However, you need to crop that foreground black right down, if not entirely with water to the bottom edge. As it is it looks like black masking tape! Also it is a pity that the boat in the centre was not separated from the land behind, but you did not have much control over that - if you had waited I expect the sun would have gone.
Thanks for the feed back. I'm a sucker for silhouettes and in this case helped bring out the color of sky and water. I thought the black strip at the bottom would balance the black leaves at the top. But you're right. A tighter crop to remove the black strip at the bottom is a good idea. I should have framed it that way at the time. I would have liked the boat to be closer but just wasn't in the cards.
We had a really nice sunset the night before but didn't have the time for photography. Was hoping for a repeat this evening but no such luck. Also have not used my 21mm much at all so decided that it would be the only lens I took with me. Probably won't do that again as I missed some opportunities not having a lens with longer reach.
Thanks again for your comments. Muchly appreciated.
