Trying out my new Metz 58

I was trying out my new Metz 58 flash the other day...

Taken with my DA40. Levels adjusted and resized.



C&C appreciated..

Interesting harsh look. Looks like direct flash? You might consider trying some bounced or off-camera flash.

Yes, it was direct flash.. But I thought it turned out rather nice.. I played with some off camera shots later, but they didnt turn out that great.. Shouldnt drink and shoot

Hi, I think it looks good. Is the blue cast on the hair from the flash?

I'm not sure where the blue is coming from, but I'm guessing from the flash as well

I like it. That's a very good shot considering that it's direct flash. Bounced or diffused (if you have no walls/ceiling) always gives you softer light, but the exposure on this one is good.

Thanks for all the comments folks! I do have a diffuser for it as well, but I don't think I used it for this shot.. I will try next time

I agree. Though, to me, it looks like the cast is across the whole picture. The skin tones lack yellow. The foliage in the back is desaturated (again lack of yellow-green). The lips are ultra-magenta.

Great result. Just the color balance is off.

2 seconds to bring down the blue channel resulted in:
