I like it. I would perhaps leave more space to the right side where all the action is and where the boat is pointing. A nice opportunity to use the rule of thirds.

May I ask if it was taken on b&w film, and if so, what type and also the camera/lens you were using?

Nice, although you should let the boat sail into the picture instead of now almost sailing out. Rule of third.

Yes, crop the left, there is nothing helpful there. You may also want to bump the lightness up some. The image is dull and has no "snap", at least on my monitor. Nice bit of action going on.

This has both lovely subject and setting, Angus, but IMHO it's about two or even three stops underexposed.

This is very common when the camera sees a whole lot of bright sky and tries to darken the picture… as a result, the boat and the fishermen lose their details.

You can use the Exposure Compensation dial to retain your shooting mode but correct for the backlit scene.

If the shooting angle was different and you can get the boat above the waterline, you could go the opposite way with Exposure Compensaton and achieve a silhouette.

Yup, I agree with all the suggestions above. You have a great photo there is just needs a little cropping to bring focus (rule of thirds) to the boat/net and some contrast/brightness. I hope you give it a try and post it back here.

Really nice shot! Well done! For me, I like to usually crop into the direction a person is looking - so I think the pano should be in the other direction to give the picture a bit more breathing room into the direction the fishermen are looking. But honestly, it's a really great shot! love the B&W! good one

It's a nice picture, I agree it's a bit under exposed. The scene doesn't really have any bright and dark spots, so that makes the black and white not as effective. It might work better as a moody colored shot if it was taken with the right light.

I like the flat B&W look. I would crop this (remove left empty space) and rise the exposure a bit.
