I think that it needs some brighter color - maybe a little of editing to make the green a bit greener.

I will probably give it a try. This is basically straight out of the camera. The only editing I did was removed a little bit of a buoy that was captured in the frame on the far left.

Scrolling down I found that I liked it much better cropped just below the partial tree on the right. It then emphasizes the foggy atmosphere. I quite like the subject.

I think it's wonderful. Maybe crop the right a bit so that small part of the tree doesn't show up, and crop the top of the frame a little.

+1

Additionally if you get the chance to retake the image sometime maybe try to get a little more water or shore infront of the island into the frame, assuming there is nothing distracting in the way.

It might be a few years as that was taken at scout camp with the oldest and I won't likely be back at that one until the youngest is the same age.

As it was mentioned - you can try to crop the photo a bit (perhaps 16:9 ?) and also play a bit with the colors.
Also, I find the top-right part of the tree really distracting (and it looks like it's hanging somewhere, but it does not look attached to anything). You can try to remove it in post-processing or just crop it.

Removing that part of the tree in post should be easy given that it was a foggy morning. That also leads to the problem of subdued colors as it was foggy. Maybe up the vibrancy but decrease the clarity to emphasize the fog?

Nice photo, but I would advise to remove the trees in the right - the composition would be much more better

I had forgotten about this image. Over a year later I look at it and find I would have shot and processed it very differently.

The reshoot is sometimes difficult/impossible but I regularly end up reprocessing old images and wondering what the heck I was thinking

I like it as is, but 1 stop brighter would be nice, just to further strengthen the mood of the image.
