Abstract The old technology

Gastown's steam clock in a very cold evening.
This was the first time I shot Ilford PanF and I really loved it. Let me know what you think about the photo.

Nice pic and an interesting subject. I had no idea there was ever such a thing so I had to look it up. Maybe it is only 40 years old but you have to admire the imagination of the man who built it. Not really a clock for the drawing room though!

Thanks! You are right. Also AFAIK, it is not entirely running on steam.

I think this is an excellent shot. I really like high contrast black and white, and this is the perfect composition for it. The steam coming from the clock is the icing on the cake. Great job in my humble opinion.

Very good. Ilford has always made great B&W films and papers. FWIW, I worked at a company that sold film in yellow boxes for decades and still I preferred Ilford B&W.

Thank you! I really liked the PanF. I heard a lot of stories that it does not hold the latent image for long, though. Having said that, my shots turned out OK. So I see myself shooting a lot more of it.

Great photograph of the clock, and a perfect approach, the steam gives atmosphere

Always nice to see Vancouver here!
Nice shot, my critique is related to the placement of background elements in the frame. Did you intend to give prominence to the "Black Frog" sign in the back? The eye is led to the sign because it is well illuminated within an otherwise dark exposure. Perhaps shooting the clock from a different angle or with a different focal length would yield a result with less distraction in the background.

Great points. Thanks for the feedback. It was challenging to set up my tripod elsewhere. Also, I had to wait 40 mins in freezing cold to get the shot without tourists

Thanks! Yes, it is steam powered. It is in Vancouver Gastown.
