Light trails attempt
Lens: Sigma 16-50mm f2.8 Camera: Pentax K-7 Photo Location: Klett, Norway ISO: 100 Shutter Speed: Above 6s Aperture: F11

The light was nice so had to do a quick attempt on long exposure.
This is simply stabilized with a gorillapod wrapped around the railing.

Good - however, the traffic seems light - especially on one side.

Well done.
I think cropping away from the bottom would be good for the framing (stop shortly before you crop the light post though)

Altogether decent for a quick attempt. Both you and your K-7 did quite well here, I'd say. Nice light indeed. Do agree about the crop, which could indeed be tighter and more accentuating the highway (although I see and like what you wanted to do with the "s-bend" through the frame). But you would lose a lot of valuable pixels with a more aggressive crop. So, for a possible reshoot and refinement of a worthwhile idea, I would look for a shooting position that leaves a little less dead space in the frame.

By using an ND filter, you would get a longer exposure, which would let you "collect" more of those head- and taillight trails for an even more pronounced effect.

(Mental note to myself: Try more head-/taillight-trail photography.)

Very nice! I would also suggest cropping the bottom, I would crop just at the base of the lightpost on the right. The color of the night sky is awesome! I also like the "star" reflections in the upper part of the photo.

I like these kinds of light trails, I need to experiment more myself.

You got a nice diagonal going there, Dan!

Yes, but the is as busy as it gets at this time of day. I tink image stacking would be the only solution to that.

I agree with you there but the 15MP censor in the K-7 dont leave me many pixels to work with for croping.

Jupp, got to redo this with another lens. 50mm is not enough, but that was as far as this one would go.

Thanks for the comments! ...also, this is the first time ive been impressed by what a gorillapod can do. Usually just stand there shaking for a few minutes before its ready for a photo.

Looks like more traffic would have helped the photo. Here in the Los Angeles area, that would not have been a problem!

Nice! Love the S curve.

An option for more light trails (besides stacking as you've mentioned) is a black card. Hold it in front of the shutter when their are no cars passing, move it when cars come. Stacking is probably much easier as this makes it more difficult to get the ambient right, but this is a handy technique if you want it all in one frame, which can be satisfying.

That looks like a good spot to work with.

The S curve of the road is very appealing and you've still got some colour in the sky which always looks better than pitch black. I can't see any movement in the web size image but I always found my Gorillapod not as stable as a proper tripod.
