Veszprém road BW
Lens: Pentax FA 31 ltd. Camera: Pentax KP Photo Location: Veszprém, Hungary ISO: 100 Shutter Speed: 1/250s Aperture: F11

What do you think about the tones and and contrast of this image? While I think it's a fine image, I always struggle with the BW images in PP.

Very nice cityscape. I think it would benefit from an "L" shaped crop from left to right. This would eliminate the dark areas that add little if anything to the image. If an element doesn't add, it detracts.

I'd be delighted if it was mine

I added the dark side for contrast, when I was there the shape of the shadows caught my eye. Although it is an interesting idea, feel free to download the image and post a crop here. I think you are right, the light side of the image is more important then the dark.

I see what you mean, 08amczb. Maybe lightening the left side to show more detail while still providing the contrast/shadows you liked would work as well or better than my idea.

This picture shows the beauty of B&W .A touch more detail in the left dark part would make it more than perfect .

For my part, I like the mood of the looming block of darkness on the left. I don't think a touch more detail in the shadows would hurt the image, but I like it how it is.

The raw contains the information, but there is nothing in the dark. With adding detail I show a boring part of the image. Reading the conversation I think this darkness is more interesting then the wall and the tree there. I tried adding detail with some light, but when the effect becomes visible it also divided the theme, draws the focus from the church. Thanks for everyone!

Tones and contrast are good. I think you did a fine job with B&W conversion.

Sky is blown out but that's ok for this scene.

I would experiment with straightening the vertical lines near frame edges. Sometimes that improves a photo but not always.

Thanks, John! I will try straighten it, I am curious how will it come out with this image.
