A dull day and using 100mm lens needed a heavy crop and boost in contrast. Thoughts welcome

Tell him to surf nearer to your position he deserves a more prominent position in the image .
Apart from the uninfluenceable I think you did a good job.

Dull day maybe, but not a dull photo. Nicely done.

The strong contrast of the dark surfer against white water works well.

I don't care for the extra wide aspect ratio in this case. The water and distant land are not especially interesting, so I would consider cropping out some of the left side. That will help make the surfer a little more prominent, while still retaining the overall scale showing how small the surfer is against nature.

Given the distance to the subject I think you have made a great image!
Although it feels quite dark, I can't think of anything I would change at this stage.

I've been around there! I miss it.

Great shot too. If there's anything I would recommend, it would be bringing out the shadows on the cliff if you can to eliminate the pure black.

I like that you can still clearly see what the focal point is here, despite it being far away.

Very nice image, well done! BW was a great choice. I like how you did the crop. I like the combination of the irregular lines of the waves, the rocks at the beach and the top of the trees in the back. If I may, there is only one thing that I would make different, that's the heavy black area behind the beach. I would light it a bit, maybe trying to show some texture in that shadows.
