Sunset at the lighthouse cliff
Lens: Tamron AF 17-50mm F2.8 XR Di-II LD Camera: K5II Photo Location: Cabo Rojo, Puerto Rico ISO: 800

Hello,

I made this image by combining bracketed exposures in Photomatix 5. While I took 5 bracketed images (0, -1, +1, -2, +2) I ended up using only 0,+2 and -2. The HDR with all 5 did not work for me. These were shot handheld at f5.6. I only use photomatix to create the base HDR but then I use Photoshop for levels, curves, sharpening etc.
I wanted the guy to go away and I thought of cloning him out, but it gives the image a sense of scale. There was another blurry person at the edge of the frame I cloned out. These were taken handheld, as the tripod was in use by the KM film camera with Ektar film, the main purpose of the trip. But that's a whole other story.
This is in landscape orientation but I also took a similar in portrait orientation and a bit wider to emphasize the cliff. Working on that one and will post shortly.
My father asked for a "nice sunset pictures of those you take" for his living room. I'm about to print this one in 24x36 for him (without the signature).

What do you think?

Thanks,

I like the pp work you did but in my opinion a 16:8 crop would be better.
This way you admittedly loose some feeling of the proportions but I think the cliff draws too much attention from the sunset otherwise.

I like how clear everything is even with the sun in the background, without it all becoming dark. Not sure if that's part of the pp but it's nice.

I agree with your decision to leave the human figure to give viewers the sense of scale. Nice shot.

I'd only suggest levelling the horizon? However, I prefer the vertical version.

Sounds like it is bracketed and combined. Not sure if it is actually HDR or more of something like enfuse tool that comes with Hugin to combine exposures. I like the enfuse look more than HDR as so much HDR just looks over cooked to me.

I really like the wider crop and would clone out the remaining individual.

I think this is a very good looking hdr image. The only thing that comes to mind for me is that I wonder what the sky looked like above where the photo cuts off. It just looks like it would look good to include more of the sky if it looked as good as the part you captured.
