Nice lighting. I think that the DR needs a bit of a tweak. May I suggest this?

I kind of prefer the slightly washed-out, "vintage" look of the original image, personally. I wonder, however, if there might have been a composition with the rock a little lower in the frame, getting more of the vista, or framed by the two rocks? (Although, you might have been deliberately hiding something with them?)

Why is a lower contrast image "vintage"? I shoot BW film all the time. More than digital and lower contrast is a choice and not a consequence of the medium.

Fair comment. I suppose I was just using it as a lazy shorthand for 'lower contrast'. I guess the age of instagram filters, and the 'film-look' being achieved by a combination of lower contrast, artificial vignetting, fake grain etc. has changed the common perception of how film *should* look.

Yeah that's about right. And other things lost with time include that you have a lot of control over contrast and dynamic range when you develop BW film yourself. And there is more than just small format film that seems to drive the stereotypes of grainy, poor tonal scale and low quality images for film in general.
