Who are you looking for?
Lens: Sigma 55-200 Camera: K3 Photo Location: South Georgia ISO: 400 Shutter Speed: 1/150s Aperture: F5.6

On South Georgia, a bleak place called Salisbury Plain, is a vast King Penguin colony, around 60,000 perhaps - and being there is both an occasion for wonder, and an assault on the senses - visual, auditory and olfactory. Eventually as large as the adults the juveniles are covered in shaggy down and are known as oakum boys. No idea whether the bird in the photograph is male or female. It was unperturbed by my presence, almost disdainful perhaps.
Some post to bring up the eye definition

Nice, I was there many years ago. Brings back great memories.

I would suggest a bit more post-processing to bring in more feather detail and recover some of the highlights in the white feathers.
Possibly a slight vignette and maybe a cooling of the white balance a little to reflect the conditions.

Thanks for posting.

Beautiful image. That must be an amazing place to visit. Was this with Lindblad ? I can imagine you took thousands of images. Why did you pick this to share ?

This ! the highlight recovery would do a lot of good to this picture. Lovely frame and the details on the eye and beak is excellent.

Such a beautiful image. But, I agree that with a little more post processing you can make it even more striking. Not sure what your preference is regarding saturation, but I just did a quick test. I adjusted the levels, punched the saturation up a bit and added a bit of sharpening. I am sure you can do even better with the original and with a bit more care.

I love the twirly snow on this. I tried some topaz sharpening on bird pics recently and it does give it that extra crispness without adding noise.

I always wondered, how do you get to South Georgia or the Sandwich Islands? Does it involve weeks at sea?

Great shot… if it were mine I’d lower the highlights a bit to bring out the chest feather details and burn in the lower left corner to avoid lighter distraction.

I agree with the suggestions for a bit more post processing. I'd add a bit more saturation just to the beak and eye to draw attention there and bring down the highlights on the chest as others have suggested for the same reason. Some very subtle vignette may also be beneficial.

Great image and thanks for sharing!

We got there on a cruise through Seabourn after some time on the Antarctic Peninsula - that was pre-pandemic of course.
