Sorry, no. I meant capturing him with a foot raised in a way that implies motion.

But after looking at this again, I do think his right foot is slightly raised. He must've been moving quite slowly, eh?

Yes, one foot raised. He was walking along at a sort of steady pace, but I had been photographing looking the other way so only noticed him when I turned around again. Would have been nice to get more shots of him.

I like the original picture best.

I even like that the person in the picture is covered a bit in the shadows because it's not about knowing who the person is - it could be any of us.

If I were to do anything, I'd do a very small crop of the bottom of the frame, I find it puts the man more in perspective and all that asphalt in the front doesn't add anything to the picture anyway.

Thanks! I'll certainly do so. The yellow centre line paint has bugged me from the start.

Interesting photo and story of how you made it. To me this shows just how much we interpret "reality" when we decide what to exclude from the frame.

I've never posted a critique post thread before, so here goes. I was photographing the mountain when someone came walking along, which I felt made for a more interesting shot.
I like the original photo, it has a mysterious appeal to me. My first impression, when I looked at it, was "Where did he come from, where is he going and why is he in such a desolate area alone?" I think the near centering of the man actually makes it more interesting as "breaks the rules" and adds to the mystery by wondering why the rules were broken. The cropped monochrome version is interesting, too, but I like the original. Thank you for sharing.

When the shadows are lifted too much on the person, the unnatural light ratio makes the picture look contrived.

This is how I would have cropped it. I also agree that B&W would make it more impactful. I did some light effects on the sky and the man.

I wish you could have captured him moving. This looks a bit too posed, I think. Still, an interesting shot.
He's moving, all right. He's walking, or hopping, at least. See how the right foot doesn't touch its shadow?

Great shot! Makes me feel like he has a long way to go.
