Well, the thing is, it is never completely snow free (up until now anyway). It's not on a glacier (the glacier is a few hundred meters away) but the snow stays over summer.
It is managed by a guardian about 3-4 months a year, so you can have a warm meal and some water (a bit expensive as everything has to be carried by helicopter, including the drinking water). Its primary users are rock climbers (alpinists) coming to summit some of the incredibly sharp mountain tops of the area. We were the only "tourists", only planning to go back down on the following morning.
