Cedar Roots
Lens: DFA 28-105 @ 80mm Camera: K-1 Photo Location: Olympic National Park ISO: 400 Shutter Speed: 1/45s Aperture: F4.5

I barely ever do B&W any more, but this one asked for it. It's a section of the base of the biggest Red Cedar tree in Washington state.

Really nice Black & White, and I like the square aspect also.

Very much a piece of nature's art, transformed into photographic art!

Very intriguing and complex picture with lots of details to ponder on. Post processing is second to none. A strong diagonal holds the picture together while the chaotic roots keeps it interesting; It takes a keen eye to spot and a skilled mind to capture it - congratulations.

I agree that this scene "asked for it" with monochrome. It helps you focus on the lines and texture. Very nice!

B&W makes them looks like they were made from casted iron... good job!

The square crop made a fine composition. You are right going BW on this one, although I must say I would bring up the exposure just a bit, to avoid certain grey portions around the main root area, but that's me. very nice light and framing.

Nice! Undoubtedly prints beautifully and wouldn't work as well in color IMHO.

Nice. They sky is distracting at the sides. A crop perhaps?
