Limpopo river at dawn, Kenia
Lens: 45 mm Camera: Pentax 67 II Photo Location: Kenia/Tanzania ISO: 250

Mara river at dawn
Pentax 67II. 45 mm
HP5 in HC-110 bleached and redeveloped in Pyro PMK

This is probably the best know crossover spot along the
river, where large herds of Gnus and Zebras cross from
Tanzania to Kenia´s Masai Mara plains, moving as the
rains bring back the grasslands.

Thanks for correcting the river's name--though I don't know those rivers!
The gray tonal variations really make this image interesting.

Thanks for noticing. I couldn’t correct it in the title. It was a challenge to photograph this scene.
It was starting to show detail in the landscape, but still a bit hazy. I wanted the whole landscape
in focus, if possible, and got the exposure right, but still managed to screw it up during development
.Fortunately I could develop the film again and it looks better now. This is a photo I took of the
Freshly developed negative, inverted in PS. The print will look much better.

This is an epic shot showing the expanse of the river and the land. Beautiful diagonal composition of the undulating river which slowly reveals the vegetation as one moves through the frame. The slightly less-contrast appearance does enhance the picture, giving it an hazy mood. The backstory is pertinent and compliments the picture nicely - TFS .

Thank you. Initially I had my doublts with the contrast, but it does capture
the mood of the moment. I'm just waiting to be able to walk again, to hit
the darkroom and print these negatives after having re-developed them.

I really hope it has nothing to with your health - all the best and looking forward to see the new results.

Thanks Vijay. I broke my ankle in 2018 and after 5 surgeries I’m finally starting to walk again.
It’ll be digital and darkroom until I can shlepp my medium and large format gear again.

That's sad to hear Peter - wish you all the best for a very quick recovery. Looking forward to your new MedF pictrues again. If there a place that you upload or exibit your LF pics as well ?

Is that the "great, gray-green, greasy Limpopo river, all set about with fever trees" (as described in Kipling, "Just So Stories" - "How the Elephant Child got his Trunk")?

No, that is the Mara river, but I couldn’t correct the name in the title anymore after I made that mistake

Thanks Vijay. I’m not a big fan of social media and I don’t have a website. I’ve published a few articles in Emulsive.org and more regularly in www.exoticaesoterica.com/New-Blog-1 You can find all sorts of images there

The graininess of the shot really gives it all to the light. Your exposure is very good and I think the composition is well thought out too. Tonality is a strong aspect of the emulsion and I can't help but stare at the river. Very nicely done.

I took this about 5:40 A.M. and the light was very unusual, almost eerie.
Between morning fog and the dust of thousands of animals on the move,
there is a slight refraction when the light breaks through this heavy layer
The color images show this very clearly. In B&W it just looks strange.
