Sedona - Study in Black and White

I'm working my way through John Beardsworth's book on Advanced Digital B&W Photography. This image was converted with Photoshop CS3, B&W conversion layer applying the yellow filter compensation and then brightening up the cliff a bit.

PENTAX K10D, smc PENTAX-FA*28-70mmF2.8AL
Focal length: 70.0mm
1/500sec, F8.0, ISO 200, Exposure comp: 0.0
Aperture Priority Automatic Exposure, Metering mode: Multi-segment

Comments, suggestions?

Sky looks a bit patchy Ole, maybe it was the yellow filter. Cliff looks good, was it in Boynton canyon? If you haven't been there, follow the trail past Enchantment resort and all the way up to the end of the canyon, there's some pretty good photo shoots up there.

That was indeed Boynton Canyon. I haven't been up at the resort - I thought it was off-limits unless you stay there. I will check it out next time.

Last time I was there, the trail went around the perimeter. It is quite a hike to the end but well worth it.

Nice work, Ansel, err, Ole.

I think the rock has been brightened a bit too much. I think the contrast on the rock area is too high.

If you could photoshop the top left twig away, that'll help.

W.r.t. to B&W conversion I think that went very well. The tone of the sky works well for me.

Class A, thanks for the advice, I'll play some more with it.
