Lens: 120mm Camera: Pentax K10D ISO: 100 Shutter Speed: 1/125s Aperture: F8

Could be slightly darker so that the blacks are actually black, but maybe that'd diminish the foggy effect you're after.

I too think it needs a black point. I'd crop the foreground right to the edge of the tree shadow and bump the contrast up to darken the tree trunk. Nice image in general.

cheers

I was just playing around with your photo, it does also look nice in sepia.

I agree toning adds to the effect well. I still say a little less foreground to bring the subject more into the bottom 3rd of the frame would help too.

cheers

I think you hit it the first time; messing with the black point turns it too much into a silhouette and loses that really nice misty quality. I think it stands as posted and the only thing I'd change (but lack the technical skill) are the power lines on the right side. I don't know how to extract that without damaging the delicate quality of the branches. Good job,
Brian

Good Morning, There is a gentleman on the Photochimper site that does great B&W. You might take a look at his posting on his work flow.

I too like the first post best. I have not attempted to remove any background distractions (powerlines), but maybe as time presents itself I will and will post the results
